I'm teaching free game design class! (Baltimore, MD)
My next free public library game design class is at the Severna Park Library. I hope to see you there Saturday! No registration required!
If you are in the Baltimore area, come to my free Crash Course in Tabletop Game Design workshop this weekend! It’s Saturday, May 2, 2026 2:00 — 4:00 pm at the Severna Park Library in Severna Park, MD.
I’ve taught this class at Dickinson College and the Gettysburg Library and now it’s coming to Maryland — hands-on with activities related to each topic.1
What you will learn
An introduction to designing your own board game or roleplaying game! You’ll learn about: theme vs. mechanisms, engaging player experiences, and how to bring your game to life. For anyone who has considered making a game or just enjoys playing them. No experience required -- just curiosity about game design!
I’m covering the four tabletop game design elements I feel are most important:
Know who your game is for.
Choose a theme and zoom in.
Design for meaningful choices.
Think about your game in three acts.
We’ll close out the class by pitching our games to each other!
Registration not required
You don’t need to register for the class ahead of time. Just show up Saturday at the library. The class will be held in the Community Meeting Room at the Severna Park Library, 45 W. McKinsey Rd, Severna Park, MD 21146.2
If you have questions, call the library at (410) 222-6290.
I hope to see you there!

If you don’t mind spoilers, I’ve written about the Gettysburg and Dickinson classes previously. That will give you a good idea of the content that will be covered.
The library is only a 15 minute drive from Games and Stuff Maryland if you want to make a very gamer day of it!
