So glad I came across this, I love your games! Why do we make things? For me, I think I make things for a lot of reasons on your list, but entertainment in the form of the challenge is the main one. TTRPGs are my main obsession, and the challenge of trying to make good stuff for that hobby is led square at my feet. It feels impossible not to answer the call 😂
I think I have no good reason. It is a medium I really like. The sort of game that I really want to play does not exist, as far as I know. I’m convinced I could, so I just keep coming back and working on it. But it always seems like there’s more to do!
Yeah I often think 'why am I even making these things?' Usually I say that deep in a design problem I'm struggling to crack or fighting to get my layout to look good.
You list several of the reasons. I do it because it's fun. I make my games, my way. People actually play them (still shocked by that). And because it is creative.
Very glad I found you! Going through you past posts now :)

"The design process is entertaining" definitely speaks to me, I love thinking about and designing games because it's so fun
Same! I just love thinking about games and game design.

If you are enjoying the process, keep going!

There are few things as rewarding as someone playing you game and having fun with it. Such a great feeling!
