Hello and Happy New Year!
I released The Compleat Booke of Experiments as a submission to the Fallen RPG game jam last week.
It’s an A4 tri-fold pamphlet that contains 11 actual recipes and remedies from the 17th and 18th centuries, and 44 different ingredients of the era in random tables.
You’ll find a recipe for barley water, a “receipt” against drunkenness, a way to make your hair grow, and more. Each one detailed for use in your next Fallen adventure.
This was a fun one to make, where the background research was just as enjoyable as the writing and layout. Inspired by The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy (1770), The English Huswife (1615), and The Accomplisht Cook (1660), many of the recipes are taken almost verbatim from the original sources. It's a fascinating look into the 17th Century, and easily blends into the atmosphere of the Fallen RPG.
If you haven’t yet checked out Fallen by Perplexing Ruins, you really should. It’s dripping with theme and packed with random tables to facilitate play. After you do, be sure to grab a copy of The Compleat Book of Experiments.
And perhaps make yourself a glass of barley water from 1734.
